About Kerry Ellen Ford Art - Artistic Vision and Values

Educating myself in England's
own ecosystems through my art.

A bit about me

This venture is founded on the awe of the biodiversity in my own backgarden and beyond. From early inspiration to professional gallery displays, my mission is to help people bring our nation's habitats, folklore and histories into their hearts and homes.

I was raised in a family of strong, creative and curious women who nurtured the need I had to name the bugs and the wild plants they lived on and sometimes-  what uses those plants might have - medicines, dyes and pollinators.

As a younger person I studied art straight out of school and eventually went on to the Cambridge School of Art at Anglia Ruskin University. In truth, I came out of University disillusioned about finding meaning through a life in art and instead chose to find meaning caring for people in my community, often this felt profound and I treasure the time spent getting to know many dear characters and their families.

My love for art and nature never left me and in the quiet hours around my family, I combined my interests in the hope of sharing the meaning it has brought into my life.

As an art form, printmaking speaks to me more than ever. It's history whispers secrets of rebellions and justice. Inequalities increasingly prevailent, the need for affordable art has never been more important and I hope one day to educate myself enough to be among those craftspeople, to inspire the next wave of creatives.

My subjects are largely native species and the plants they evolved with. Unlike humans, animals and insects evolved so localised that without their food plants and habitats, they're unlikely to survive and in Norfolk we are incredibly lucky to have a miriad of habitats- Fenland, the broken land of the Brecks, salt marsh, naturally occuring ponds, neolithic flint mines and the tip of the incredible ancient path- Peddars Way. Not to mention 10% of the world's Chalkstreams!

My values include creativity, sustainability, environmental respect, and personal exploration through every piece and blog post.
